FacePlugin’s ID Document Recognition SDK locates the document in frame, classifies its type, and pulls out the data fields – name, date of birth, document number, expiry date, and more – through a combination of OCR, MRZ parsing (ICAO 9303), and PDF417 barcode decoding.
It recognizes thousands of global passport, ID-card, and driver-license formats, and cross-checks the MRZ, visual zone, and barcode against one another to catch tampering and transcription errors along the way. Because it runs fully on-premises, regulated businesses can digitize KYC without ever routing customer documents through an external cloud.
What comes out the other end is clean, structured, validated data – not just a photo of a card. That translates into fewer manual reviews, faster onboarding, and a dependable foundation for the downstream identity-verification steps: document liveness, face match, and selfie liveness.
